This is a piece that I made for the contest on the Taogem forum. I made a few pieces and decided on this one. I will post pictures of all the pieces at the end. It was hard to decide which piece to enter. The pieces that had the most votes from family and friends were the Velvet obsidian and the Berrendo agate. The Mexican fire opal kept being chosen as the one everyone wanted tho. Confusing me even more. So I went with the original piece I had in mind to enter. Besides I had taken more photos of the that one while I was making it.
Here are pictures of most of the process.
It had been awhile since I put a piece together with solder instead of wire. It was fun tho and I just might make a few more.

This weekend was a great cabbing and smithing weekend. I’m thinking on making a couple of pieces for the contest so that I can hopefully pick the best to enter. I have started the 1st one and have been cabbing so I can start the 2nd. I’m really liking how this one is turning out so far. I’m not sure if posting pics is ok as far as the contest goes, so I’m gonna post the sketch and the pics of the cabs. The sketch is a rough one, just fyi. 🙂 In this piece I’m using the Berendo agate cab from the last post. The only wire was a wrap I finished for a friend. Made out of turquoise, coral and a sapphire.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you had a great weekend!

Well I have finally finished a wrap. I’ve been taking it sorta easy for a few days, due to my lil accident. Its been ok tho, just a little recharging. This is a piece that you will notice in a prior post that just wasn’t finished. The flower is from outside of my house just like the others.
Thanks for coming by!!

I was up early and to be kind to my neighbors I started with cabbing a couple of Oregon Sunstones, a Mexican fire opal as well as a couple of MH poppy jaspers. The jasper was green and poppies look like sunflowers in the stone. Well if you know me, you know how I love sunflowers. So I will be looking to get some more of that done. Then as it got a lil later in the day I moved outside to the saw and to cut up some of the rock I had been eyeing for awhile. The colors in the Boulder opal are great. Can’t wait to get some cabbed.
By noon the heat was getting to be too much so it was over. For now anyway… 🙂
I hope you enjoyed da pics and have had a cool weekend. Back to work manana, no rest for the um wicked… or whatever.

Wow, great weather for cabbing and just being outside. The sunstones I bought last weekend have been of really good quality. I wish I could capture the chatoyancy in a picture. They are just beautiful and I’m sure they’re gonna make great pieces of jewelry. Well here are a couple that are finished as well as a couple of Mexican fire opals with different colors that are much more vibrant in person.

Also polished are these 2 pendants
